Straight after the outburst of tourism in the Balearics, the traditional gastronomy of Majorca was given less importance, but in recent years it has recovered a lot of its previous value; thanks, in part, to its old cellars. The origin of Majorca's cuisine is quite rustic and even today the use of pork and lard is very frequent. You can obviously also find fish, shellfish, fruit and plenty of vegetables.
Regarding Majorca's local dishes, you can't miss the "asado de lechona" (roasted piglet), served above all in Majorca's taverns. The soups are also very widespread (Majorca and Minorca) and generally have a base of bread, onions and vegetables.
As in the peninsula, the pork deli and "Serrano" ham are common eating habits. In the end, grilled or fried fish are and will always be a treat, and don't forget the famous Tapas!
You should also know that Majorca produces a large number of different cheeses since 1991 and owns two wines of guaranteed vintage!
Surely you can't miss the classics such as pizzas, Chinese restaurants in Majorca and the still popular Mexican restaurants in Majorca.
If you are tempted by German restaurants, you can find them by the coast of Arenal.
Or if you are looking for something specific, there is a wide range of other restaurants. |
