Mallorca is the largest and most important island. North of the island you can see the mountain-chain of Tramuntana that extends from south-west to north-east over 100km. South of the island you can observe the southern sierra, whose mountains are lower than those in the north, and appear to be a chain of small hills.
Mallorca's coasts are mainly rocky and have been shaped by the tides over centuries. There are many caves and bays on these coasts; the most impressive cave in
Mallorca is located on the east of the island and has a 1km tunnel; the largest bay in
Mallorca is in Palma, at the very south.
Ibiza is the closest island to the
Spanish coasts (80km) whereas Mallorca and
Menorca are at approximately 200-250 km from
Barcelona and
Valencia!
